Local Google Fonts

Local Google Fonts toggle in the Plugin Options admin tab

By default, Google Fonts are loaded from Google's servers. With Local Google Fonts enabled, Nectarblocks downloads the Google Fonts your site uses and serves them from your own domain instead.

Why self-host

  • Performance — fonts are served from your own server and cached, removing an extra third-party connection on every page load.
  • Privacy / GDPR — visitors' browsers no longer request fonts from Google, so no visitor data is sent to Google's font CDN.

Enabling it

  1. In the WordPress admin, open the Nectarblocks admin panel and go to the Plugin Options tab.
  2. Turn on Local Google Fonts.

Once enabled, any Google Fonts assigned in your Global Typography rules are downloaded (in the efficient WOFF2 format), stored in your site's uploads directory, and referenced from there. The local copies are regenerated automatically when you change your typography settings, so the set of self-hosted fonts always matches what your site actually uses.
